Changelog

What's shipped.

Every release, what changed, and why it matters. Workflo updates itself — you'll see these notes in the update window too.

1.5.4

August 25, 2026
  • Menu bar icon stays clickable — the Workflo icon could slide behind a neighbouring menu bar item and become impossible to click. Workflo now detects when macOS drops its menu bar slot and takes it back automatically.
  • Calendar permission asked at the right moment — adding a calendar trigger now requests calendar access right when you set the trigger up, instead of surprising you at launch, and the confirm button reads Continue when a permission prompt will follow.

1.5.3

August 18, 2026
  • Security fix in the update system — Sparkle, the framework Workflo uses to update itself, had three reported flaws, two of them rated high severity. All three need local access to your Mac rather than anything reachable over the network, and the most serious let an attacker redirect a file the installer writes while it is running with administrator rights. Workflo now ships Sparkle 2.9.6, which fixes all three. Nothing else about how Workflo behaves has changed in this release.

1.5.2

August 12, 2026
  • Applying a Scene no longer overwrites your Desk — Workflo remembers how you leave your windows so it can put them back. While a Scene was applied, it kept overwriting that memory with the Scene itself, so Restore Now and automatic restores brought back a Scene instead of your own layout. Your Desk is now only learned when you are actually in it.
  • Scenes settle straight away — applying a Scene could carry on nudging your windows for several seconds afterwards, pulling back anything you moved or minimized in that time. Workflo now revisits only the windows that haven't arrived yet and leaves everything else alone.
  • A window that won't resize is no longer called a failure — some apps have a minimum window size and simply keep it. Those were being reported as windows that couldn't move, which wasn't true — they moved exactly where they were meant to. Workflo now tells the two apart.

1.5.1

August 11, 2026
  • Better window matching when a layout comes back — when several windows of the same app are open, Workflo now works out the best overall pairing instead of matching them one at a time. Windows land where you meant them to more often, particularly with a browser or editor that has a few windows going.
  • Honest reporting when a window won't move — if an app accepts the move but refuses to be resized, that no longer counts as a success. Workflo tells you how many windows didn't make it instead of reporting a half-applied Scene as though everything worked.
  • Clearer wording about what gets saved — the note about minimized and full-screen windows said they "aren't part of a layout", which undersold things. The limit is only on saving; restoring still pulls windows back out of the Dock and reopens apps that aren't running.
  • The free trial is now tied to your Mac — reinstalling Workflo no longer restarts the seven days. Your remaining trial is remembered rather than living in a file on disk.

1.5.0

August 5, 2026
  • A new app icon — Workflo has a proper mark of its own now — in the Dock, and redrawn for the menu bar so it matches everything else up there.
  • Clearer help when window access is blocked — if macOS has granted Accessibility but is still refusing window access, Workflo now says so plainly instead of behaving as though everything is fine.
  • Mission Control guidance — when a display change scatters your layout, Workflo points at the setting responsible and opens it for you.
  • Two copies stay out of each other's way — if a second copy of Workflo is ever running, it pauses itself rather than fighting the first one over your windows.
  • Hardened license checks — license records are validated more strictly.

1.4.0

August 3, 2026
  • A proper Mac installer — Workflo now downloads as a disk image: open it, drag the icon into Applications, done. No more zip files loose in your Downloads folder.
  • Workflo keeps itself where it belongs — if you ever launch it from your Downloads folder or straight off the disk image, it offers to move itself to Applications with one click. That keeps macOS permissions attached to the app permanently, so accessibility access never silently breaks after an update.

1.3.0

August 3, 2026
  • Swap an app in a scene — right-click any window in a scene's layout and choose "Replace with" to hand its exact spot to a different app. Pick from running apps, or choose "Other…" to browse for anything installed.
  • Much lighter on your battery — Workflo now checks whether your desk actually changed before doing any real work, skips the busywork when you're just clicking around, and goes fully quiet while your Mac sleeps. Same memory, a fraction of the background activity.
  • Housekeeping — the app's log file no longer grows forever.

1.2.0

August 2, 2026
  • Scene switches now animate — apps that aren't part of a scene minimize into the Dock with the familiar macOS animation instead of vanishing instantly, and their windows animate back out when a scene brings them in.
  • Automated switches happen in stages — when a trigger applies a scene, Workflo clears the desk first, takes a beat, then brings in the scene's apps, so you can see what's happening instead of an instant rearrange.
  • Pick your own countdown — the warning shown before an automated switch is now adjustable from 3 to 60 seconds in Settings → Automation.
  • Calendar triggers can ask for access again — a missing permission entitlement meant macOS never showed the calendar prompt, so meeting triggers couldn't work. They now request access properly.
  • Small fixes — scene options stay visible in short Settings windows, and switching sections no longer flashes a crossfade.

1.1.2

July 31, 2026
  • Check for Updates works again — clicking the button while a new version was available did nothing. It now shows the update window every time. If you're on 1.1.0 or 1.1.1, download 1.1.2 once — updates take care of themselves from here on.
  • Update alerts come to the front — when a scheduled check finds a new version, the alert now presents itself instead of appearing behind your windows.

1.1.1

July 30, 2026
  • License activation is more forgiving — keys are cleaned up automatically as you paste them: stray spaces, dashes restyled by email apps, lowercase, and look-alike characters (like a letter O for a zero) are all handled.
  • Clearer activation errors — if a key can't be activated, Workflo tells you why: incomplete key, key not found, already in use on another Mac, or a connection problem.
  • License reliability — a temporary license-server outage can no longer make an activated copy fall back to trial.

1.1.0

July 16, 2026
  • Preset scenes — ready-made layouts for common setups, with dual-monitor variants that tile across both displays.
  • Preview before you apply — see exactly which apps and windows a scene will arrange.
  • Finer scene control — per-scene hide/close toggles, delete scenes from the Layouts window, and revert an applied scene.
  • Automation heads-up — triggered scenes announce themselves with a countdown you can cancel.
  • Edge snapping — windows snap to screen edges while a scene is active.

Workflo is notarized by Apple as of this release — no security warning on first launch.
